Annual Student Recital Venue & Date Confirmed
Movement Arts Atlanta is pleased to announce that this season’s Annual Student Recital date and location have been confirmed. The recital will be held in the auditorium at Mary Lin Elementary School in Candler Park on Saturday, May 16, 2026 at 3:00 pm. This year’s recital will present a new story ballet entitled Much to the Ballerina’s Surprise, a tap number and a new modern work entitled Coral Movement Suite. All are welcome and addmission is free.
Much to the Ballerina’s Surprise is inspired by the Edward Gorry print Gorry Theater Dance and set to the music of Eric Satie. In the ballet, the ballerina is preparing for her important solo and finds that a wide and interesting cast of characters including angles with cakes, a hero, tango dancers, kittens and a puppy have other ideas for the stage. The audience need not worry about the dear Ballerina’s consternaion for all is righted in the end and she performes her solo to the delight of her new friends and the audience. This piece includes the majority of MAA’s Students ages 3 through adult.
Following the story ballet there will be a fun tap number performed by the multi-age Modern I with Tap class. MAA has just recently added this dance form back to its schedule. The number will be performed to a lively piece by Vintage Stop and include the requicet canes and sparkling costumes.
The afternoon’s program will be completed with a suite of three dances performed by the students in Modern I and Modern II. Coral Movement Suite explores the ideas of movement seen and felt around a coral reef - the swell of a wave, the darting of a fish. The dances are set to music of British composer Oliver Davis.
